Bavette in the Third Ward Is Gearing Up to Move!

The restaurant will be closed for at least a month before reopening in the new space.

Exciting days are ahead for Bavette La Boucherie, the Third Ward restaurant-butcher (330 E. Menomonee St.). The closing date for its longtime location next to Club Charlie’s is Saturday, April 2. So that’s your last day to get a cheese and charcuterie board – as well as the dynamite roasted carrot salad, Cuban sandwich, fried chicken sliders, mole pork shoulder and a whole lot more – before owner Karen Bell and her crew are ready to open in the business’ new digs just a few blocks away, at 217 N. Broadway

Bell – who is a 2022 finalist for the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest – told me she can’t reveal an opening date yet, but will have a better idea in a few weeks. The new location was occupied by Swig, which closed back in 2018. Bell said last fall that Bavette had outgrown its Menomonee Street space and the new location would offer, among other things, a kitchen better-equipped for the restaurant’s needs.

With April 2 being the last day of operations for at least a month, you have one more chance (March 30) to get one of Bavette’s Wednesday night burgers grilled right outside the shop. Toppings change each week. That burger is a knockout, and I’m looking forward to the grill-out tradition continuing once Bavette reopens on North Broadway.
