A Local Foodie-Loved Restaurant Is Getting a New Home

EsterEv is leaving the Third Ward.

EsterEv, the nesting doll of a restaurant that operates inside the Third Ward’s DanDan (360 E. Erie St.), is getting a new home. This spring, the tasting menu-serving dining destination created by chefs Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite is moving to Bay View in a spot that opened last year, the former C-viche (2165 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.).

Jacobs touched briefly on the news in a phone conversation. “It was the right time, right place. It’s a good size. It means we can still do 40 to 50 people a night. We can just kick ass on the food front,” he says.

The Dans also released the following statement, saying they’re “thrilled” about the move:

“EsterEv’s beloved tasting menu, inspired by the bounty of Wisconsin’s agricultural seasons, will continue to evoke nostalgia and joy as an homage to Jacobs and Van Rite’s great-grandmothers and their shared love for cooking. No longer hidden in the back of DanDan, this rebirth also signifies a change in the menu format to make the tasting concept accessible to more people – something the “Dans” are very passionate about with rising food costs. After many years working in the confines of a shared kitchen, the team is excited to have expanded capabilities in a large dedicated space.”

Look out for EsterEv favorites such as the caviar tater tot, dry-aged duck, and seasonal love letters to local ingredients along with inventive riffs on comfort food classics where the Dans continue to push the boundaries of their creativity.
