A Look at Speedskating at the Petitt Center | Milwaukee Magazine

Watch Pro Speedskaters Or Try it Yourself at the Pettit Center

Looking for a new workout? Speed on over to the Pettit. Or, just hang out and watch the pros zoom by.

If you’re suffering from the post-holiday doldrums, perhaps it’s time to take up a new hobby. The Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee (500 S. 84th St.) offers speedskating lessons for anyone ages 6 and older.

If that sounds like a bigger challenge than you care to take on, you can opt to enjoy the thrills vicariously from a perch on the bleachers, watching world-class athletes like Tommy Fitzgerald (left) and Samuel Hart-Gorman do practice runs. Many of the sport’s elite make the center’s oval their training home, including Kewaskum phenom and 2026 Winter Olympics favorite Jordan Stolz. He scored a track record at the U.S. long-track championships here in October (breaking his own record from January).

Also on the Pettit board is Bonnie Blair, America’s most decorated female Winter Olympian.
