Lesson learned: even Girl About Town isn’t invincible. The CoreAlign program can make me stronger and a solid schedule of progressive distance running will improve my endurance, but a sinus infection can trump all those weeks of training in just a few short days. Sadly, I had to succumb, and was unable to run the inaugural Brewers Mini Marathon this past weekend. I guess once you hit 30, it’s good to know your physical limits.
A misty, cold Saturday morning welcomed a sold-out of crowd of 5,000 runners. The course started and finished at Miller Park, as it traversed through historic Miller Valley. I think its safe to say I’ll have my chance next year to conquer this race. I am sharing a happier, more victorious picture of me running the Napa Valley Half Marathon in July 2010 below.

Though I didn’t have the chance to conquer my personal goal of a running a half marathon in under two hours, I would recommend the CoreAlign program at the The Lift Pilates & CoreAlign Studio for anyone looking for a new challenge and way to enhance their body mechanics. If you try it and really dig it, you can go through the three, five-week sessions to become a “master,” and use the machines without the guidance of an instructor.
The Lift Pilates & CoreAlign Studio will continue its offer for Girl About Town readers – a 25 percent discount on a five-week session. Classes are Monday and Wednesday at either 5:30 p.m. or 6:45 p.m. You can call the studio (414) 751-8200 or e-mail patty@theliftpilates.com to sign up.
For winter, I am hanging up my running shoes for a while and concentrating on tennis and yoga. Have a personal fitness goal or challenge? Tell me about it; I am always up for something new. Also, follow me as @jkashou to stay on top of all other non-athletic happenings around town.
