Launching WMSE’s weeklong 30th anniversary celebration, local favorites Call Me Lightning and Holy Shit! play a free show. Free, as in no money. This show costs zero money for you to attend. And between Holy Shit!’s charmingly abrasive collection of minute-long songs and Call Me Lightning’s foot-stomping (and increasingly Irish sounding?) brand of rock ’n’ roll, the show is well worth, like, 12 times the cover charge. We here at Music Notes realize that Thursday is St. Patty’s Day, and you’re probably going to be puking green beer into the hood of the “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” sweatshirt you’re – for some unknown reason – wearing backward by the time the clock strikes noon. But if you want to avoid the whole Irish thing, Surgeons In Heat are the local music equivalent of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on this festive holiday evening. There are only a few moments in a human’s life that can’t be effectively put into words. Off the top of my head, they are the birth of their first child, gazing across the alter into the eyes of your husband- or wife-to-be on your wedding day, and seeing “The Power of Love” performed live after a minor league hockey game.
