Probably having realized the series of announcement parties for each stage—events intended to release details about other events—held last year were sort of (read: entirely) stupid and unnecessary, the usually tight-lipped Summerfest organizers gave people an early gift this week. The headliners for this year’s Summerfest, the 45th such festival, have been posted to the Summerfest website.
As usual, the top-billing talent booked to play runs the gamut of genre, popularity and age demographics. Classic rockers Scorpions and Steve Miller Band hold down coveted slots on grounds (free with admission) stages, as do indie darlings The Avett Brothers, Head And The Heart, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, and Fitz & The Tantrums. Hip-hop royalty Atmosphere, Common, and Lupe Fiasco are slated to headline on grounds stages as well, in addition to radio mainstays Cake, Joss Stone and Robyn.
Milwaukee’s own, R&B artist Eric Benet will also headline on a grounds stage, as well as Gary Clark Jr., Phil Vassar, Awolnation, Tito Rojas, Brantley Gilbert, Gavin DeGraw, La India, Anthony Hamilton, Mutemath, Halestorm, and The Joy Formidable.
Marcus Amphitheater headliners, many of whom were announced weeks ago, are The Beach Boys, Iron Maiden, Zac Brown Band, Big Time Rush, Lady Antebellum and… OH MY GOD!!! Neil Diamond.
Summerfest runs from June 27 through July 1 and July 3-8. Music Notes will cover some of the hundreds of other bands that will perform at “The Big Gig” as details become available.
