Signs of new year change? Follow me to Water and St. Paul in the Third Ward. The 1920s Mayer Building (342 N. Water St.), to be exact. The building, once home to Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and Ko-Thi Dance Company, has something equally lively in its tenant future. Restaurant-America, which started the Bar Louie chain, is putting a location of primebar in the building’s 12,000-square-foot ground floor. Never heard of primebar? Minneapolis, Chicago and Tampa all have locations of this “modern day ale house” and “go to destination for cool food, local brews, live entertainment and great cocktails,” according to a colorful description from the restaurant chain’s website. Estimated opening is late spring 2013.

Sheboygan’s 3 Sheeps Brewing Company has been busy. Or should I say some chefs have been busy matching this outfit’s craft beers with food. In Milwaukee, c.1880 Restaurant is doing a five-course dinner (Jan. 30, 6:30 p.m.), each course paired with a brew from 3 Sheeps. Courses include steak tartare (with 3 Sheeps Rebel Kent); scallop with harissa, cauliflower and preserved lemon (Really Cool Waterslides Beer); pork belly with smoked potato, celeriac and Gruyere (with Baad Boy Black Wheat), and a French cake called a financier (Ginger Chocolate Stout) Cost? $65 per person. Spots are limited, so call now: 414-431-9271. (1100 S. First St.)… Kohler is also hosting a trio of 3 Sheep dinners at Blackwolf Run Restaurant. The first is this Friday (Jan. 18). Like the event at c.1880, these dinners are five courses with beer pairings. January’s dinner includes country-style pork rillettes, Asian pork belly with creamy slaw, beer-braised short rib with spaetzle and sauerkraut, and dark chocolate ginger beer cake. 6:30 p.m.; cost $65.
