Your Chance to Name a Beer

O’so Brewing is kegging a sour red ale that was made specifically for Ray’s Growler Gallery (8930 W. North Ave.). O’so took care of the brewing, but customers get to take care of the name. The rules are pretty simple. The name must have “O’so” and “Ray” in it and be submitted by the end of the month. You can post it on Twitter by tweeting to @raysgrowler, @rayswine, or @raysbeer with the hashtag #sourpower. You can also post it on Facebook.com/rayswine or email Ray’s beer guru Kaleb (kaleb@rayswine.com). The person who creates the perfect name gets a $100 gift card to Ray’s Growler Gallery.

New Beer Store Coming to ’Tosa

The Malt Shoppe (813 N. Mayfair Rd.) plans to open in Wauwatosa next month. The awesomely named spot will celebrate a grand opening from Oct. 24 to Oct. 26 and it doesn’t seem like just another liquor store. Owner Pat Lafferty plans to have 30 tap beers for sampling and growler filling, and more than 1,000 different packaged beers in the 2,400-square-foot space. Ambitious? Maybe. But there’s nothing wrong with that.

Barley Pop of the Week

Last year, Lakefront hit a home run with its 25th Anniversary Brandy Barrel Aged Imperial Pumpkin Lager. Thankfully, Lakefront decided to brew a similar batch this year, and the Imperial Pumpkin Ale was born. Dozens of good pumpkin beers are on store shelves, but Lakefront’s might be my favorite. Spices like nutmeg and cinnamon are prevalent but not overpowering, and brandy barrel-aging gives it a nice warm and boozy finish. It’s fall in a bottle.

Quick Taps

I plan to make a stop at the much-anticipated District 14 Brewery and Pub (2273 S. Howell Ave.) this week. I’ll let you know how it goes.

3 Sheeps is mixing things up with the latest Nimble Lips, Noble Tongues brew. Volume 3 is an IPA that uses squid ink (yep) to give the beer a slightly briny finish. Early reviews seem to be positive.

This week’s specialty beer served during the Lakefront Brewery fish fry (Friday from 4 to 9:30 p.m.) is Fuel Cafe Coffee Stout with fresh coffee beans.
