Tuesday, Aug. 30: Carrie Elkin at Club Garibaldi, 9 p.m. (FREE)
Although there is no shortage of local cafes and bars willing to push aside a few tables and boxes to allow open mic participants a place to play their best take on Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” storied Bay View venue Club Garibaldi now offers fans of free weekday acoustic music something better with its monthly Acoustic Artist Night. Austin, Texas, folk/country artist Carrie Elkin kicks off the concert series in grand fashion. (2501 S. Superior St., ClubGaribaldis.com)

Wednesday, Aug. 31: Polka Open Jam at Kochanski’s Concierta Beer Hall, 7 p.m. (FREE)
Sorry, standard Wednesday performer Evan Christian, your smooth jazz sounds will need to take a backseat to the grating aural assault of accordions this week. (1920 S. 37th St., Beer-Hall.com)

MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK

Thursday, Sept. 1: TV on the Radio at Pabst Theater, 7:30 p.m. ($27.50)
TV on the Radio has somehow enjoyed a great 2011 while simultaneously enduring a terrible 2011. On the positive end of the spectrum, the newly relocated L.A. band somehow outdid its breakout album Return to Cookie Mountain with the lauded Nine Types of Light and has (deservedly) gained industrial respect in both the musical and film factions. Sadly, the current cast of TVOTR was unable to share the sustained success with bassist Gerard Smith, who tragically died of cancer in April at just 34. After a few cancellations to grieve its fallen friend, the band is back to continue its climb to rarefied artistic air. Seluah opens. (144 E. Wells St., PabstTheater.org)

Friday, Sept. 2: The Fatty Acids at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 8 p.m. ($5)
After blowing me away and, later, embarking on a month-long tour of the American West in their deteriorating van “Brown Daymare,” The Fatty Acids have finally returned home to Milwaukee to play a local release show for their new full-length, Leftover Monsterface. Kane Place Record Club (releasing a new extended play), Sat. Nite Duets and Rio Turbo open. (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)

Also:
Tedeschi Trucks Band at Riverside Theater, 7:30 p.m. ($20-65) – (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., PabstTheater.org)

And: ZORCH, Lines and Terminals, and Cyborg Fortress at Cactus Club, 10 p.m. – (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., CactusClubMilwaukee.com)

Saturday, Sept. 3: Tim Schweiger and the Middlemen at Circle-A Café, 8 p.m.
Tim Schweiger cut his teeth in canonical Fox Cities bands such as The Screwballs, Yesterday’s Kids and Obsoletes. After heeding the advice of the appropriately titled Obsoletes song “Down to Milwaukee,” Schweiger went south on 41 a few years ago and has since carved a comfy niche for himself in town with energetic Middlemen sets full of rousing originals and favorites from his popular past projects. (932 E. Chambers St., circle-a-cafe.org)

Also: Northless, The Bohemian Space Project, Canyons of Static, Ronald Raygun, Otto Modest, Rot Box and The Abominable Snowmen at Borg Ward Collective, 4 p.m. ($8) – (832 W. National Ave., MySpace.com/TheBorgWard)

Sunday, Sept. 4: Midwest Beat at Circle-A Cafe, 8 p.m.
(932 E. Chambers St., circle-a-cafe.org)

And: Sovereign Sect, BoomBox, and DJ Solo at Miramar Theatre, 8:30 p.m. ($5) – (2844 N. Oakland Ave., TheMiramarTheatre.com)
