Mondo Lucha at Mexican Fiesta

Mondo Lucha at Mexican Fiesta

The ethnic festivals have been going strong all summer at the Henry Maier Festival grounds, but my favorite finally arrived last weekend: Mexican Fiesta. No, I am not Mexican, just a lover of the culture. And there is plenty to love, whether it’s the food, music or the fine art of Lucha Libre wrestling. Milwaukee’s own Mondo Lucha has been the official presenter of the Lucha Libre at Mexican Fiesta for the past three years. I had the good fortune of meeting the founders of Mondo Lucha and went behind the scenes for a story for Milwaukee Magazine last fall. You can see it here.

Last weekend, they presented four family-friendly shows for about 3,000 people. Most of their popular characters/wrestlers attended, such as El Chivas Blanco (the crazy goat), The Russian Beast, Astro Fuego, Daivari Guerrero and many more.

“These shows were great. We give away so many freebie masks to the kids and do free autographs and pictures after every show. For us, its really fun to give an all-out, high-energy show and make kids and families laugh with our brand of wrestling and characters,” says founder Andy Gorzalski.

Are you ready for the adult-only version of the show? See Mondo Lucha in all its glory Saturday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. at Turner Hall. A traditional Mondo Lucha live variety show features the same high flyin’ Lucha Libre wrestlers, along with national touring burlesque acts and an array of sideshow performers and musical guests.

This fourth-anniversary show will feature burlesque artists Lola Van Ella, Foxy La Feelion, Francesca Alfresca, and Jeez Loueez; plus, legendary luchadors El Chivas Blanco, Shockwave The Robot, and many more. The show will also feature special musical guest The Fatty Acids.

If you have never seen a full Mondo Lucha show, Sept. 8 will be the perfect time to check them out. Organizers promise the size and scale is bigger than anything they’ve done in the past.

Gorzalski says,  “I want the entire city of Milwaukee at this show – we’re pulling out all the stops. There are going to be many surprises that night. We’re holding a lot of secrets, twists and turns for this show and I can’t wait to spring them on Milwaukee!”
