Locust Street Festival Preview

Juniper Tar will make an appearance at the Locust Street Festival. Though the 90 degree days, the rampant barbeques, the already-packed shores of Bradford Beach and Ryan Braun’s double-digit home run total seems to suggest that summer has come to Milwaukee ahead of schedule, one vital component is notably absent. Though the 90 degree days, the rampant barbeques, the already-packed shores of Bradford Beach and Ryan Braun’s double-digit home run total seems to suggest that summer has come to Milwaukee ahead of schedule, one vital component is notably absent.

The lack of summer festivals, block parties and celebrations of that ilk is the one reason summer has yet to hit Brew City – well, that, and the whole “not being June 21 yet” thing.

Enter Locust Street Festival, among the first of the many such events to occur in the self-proclaimed City Of Festivals. For 35 years, the Riverwest block party has brought vendors, activities and, of course, live music to one of the neighborhood’s main drags. This, the 36th Locust Street Festival (Sunday, June 10), will offer much of the same: arts and crafts, a 1.8 mile Beer Run, free herring samples (what better snack for a hot outdoor event than pickled fish?), Scrabble tournament, tai chi exhibitions, games and wonderful, wonderful outdoor daytime public drinking. Oh yeah, seven stages of music from a varied cluster of some of Milwaukee’s best bands.

Using our intrepid reporting savvy (and Google), Music Notes has obtained the Locust Street Festival music schedule.
