Yo Life
You might find yourself seated inside Ma Fischer’s, gazing mindlessly at the traffic on Farwell Avenue. And suddenly it hits you. Why am I not across the street at Yo Factory? Good question. You can rectify that by settling up your bill and heading over. The new froyo joint offers eight, serve-yourself flavors, and 37 toppings (fruit to cereal to candy) to pile on with reckless abandon. (The cost is 45 cents per ounce.) But wait, that’s not all. Yo Factory – which shows some personality, with its retro-ish jukebox and bright-red couch – also does 12 all-fruit smoothies, and sells cookies and bars from Thiensville’s Fiddleheads Bakery. Hours: Mon-Sat 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sun 11 a.m.-10 p.m. (2203 N. Farwell Ave., 414-988-4562)
What Goes With Beer?
Beer Week (April 20-27) is a serious deal in Milwaukee. And it should be. For details on bars that are running specials this week, proceed immediately to Dan Murphy’s Brew City blog. If you’re interested in a Beer Week special at a restaurant, you’ve come to the right place. From now until the 27th, Le Rêve Patisserie & Café is running three- and four-course menus with beer pairings. This is only at dinner (from 5 p.m.). What could be yours (for $45 or $55, for three or four courses, respectively): French lager beer cheese soup; charcuterie plate, with duck confit rillettes, aged speck and cognac pâté; soft-shell crab with fricassee of spring vegetables; finishing with a fromage course. Beers offered with these courses: Kronenbourg 1664 (France), La Trappe Quadrupel (Netherlands), Saison Dupont (Belgium) and Chimay Première (Belgium). Note to those who have no interest in beer dinners: The regular menu is available this week, as well. (7610 Harwood Ave., 414-778-3333)
Prime Consumption
National Prime Rib Day!? Yeah, this Friday. A national holiday that should be recognized by employers everywhere. I demand a day off! Just kidding. This Friday (April 27), Ward’s House of Prime will make it hard to turn down 25 ounces of marbled beef. For $25, you get a 25-ounce cut of prime rib, as well as soup and salad. Make your reservation now: 414-223-0135. (540 E. Mason St.)
Clam Up
What are you doing on Wednesday night? (That’s April 25.) For two hours, you can feel like you’re in New England, sort of. MOTOR restaurant (at the Harley-Davidson Museum) is throwing an all-you-can-eat clam bake. The meal, which includes one nonalcoholic beverage, is best prefaced by making a call to MOTOR. It might be crowded, after all. April 25, 5-7 p.m. Cost: adults $21.95, children $10.95. (401 W. Canal St., 414-287-2778)
