Keeping the feather trend under control has been tough. I have seen far too many long feathered dangle earrings, and the feather extension craze is waning now, thank goodness. Like anything that comes and goes in fashion, there are right ways to do it, and of course the lame way to do it.
While in NYC attending the Spring 2012 fashion shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in September, I couldn’t help snapping a photo of this young lady. The juxtaposition of her somewhat distressed blazer, and the surprise of her deep purple feathered skirt, hit just the right style note in my book. One thing you’ll always hear me say is that, “it doesn’t have to match to work together.” That is exactly the case here. The longer length of the blazer lessens the “hoochie dancer” effect of the skirt, and actually makes it quite demure. The lack of accessories here shows the wearers sophistication in the face of possible feather overload. The shoes, bag, a couple of bangles, and a pretty bright red stained lip, are all she needs for fashion success!!!
This look could also be done in a more wintry style with a casual wool blazer or coat, maybe even a soft plaid country squire jacket. Can you tell I love this look? Don’t be afraid to experiment and mix up items that may seem incongruous at first. Great style is all about confidence, and breaking the rules! What do you think?
