Warm-Cool Dichotomy

The open windows and door let in both the humid early-evening air and locals in cotton sun dresses. Centro cafe on a summer night is a sweet place to be (808 E. Center St., 414-455-3751). And in these warm-weather months, the cafe is offering a second food menu from which to choose. The summer specials range from a couple of cold pastas (puttanesca penna, chicken farfalle) to several warm ones (Gorgonzola penne with pancetta, spaghetti with artichokes and prosciutto). Summer salads include strawberry walnut and vegetable spaghetti (zucchini, squash and red pepper cut to look like spaghetti), $9-$13.
Fourth Coming
The newest location of The City Market (527 E. Silver Spring Dr.) is nearing its due date. The Whitefish Bay restaurant, across the street from Sendik’s, is on track to open later this week, I hear. This is City Market’s fourth location.
Visit to the Asylum
Ale Asylum is a Madison-based brewing company known for such beverages as Contorter Porter, Satisfaction Jacksin and Ballistic IPA. The company held a sold-out dinner at Tess (2499 N. Bartlett Ave.) last year and is back this month to pair five beers with five courses. There are spots available for the July 13 (6:30 p.m.) dinner. The courses include an “inside out” grilled cheese with Carr Valley snow white cheddar and red onion jam (with Ale Asylum’s Ambergeddon), Thai beef noodle salad (with Hoppalicious), bacon-wrapped lamb chops with salsa verde and vegetable orzo (Sticky McDoogle Scotch Ale). The dinner is $40 per person. Call 964-8377 to reserve your space.
