This week’s item never actually made it onto the chalkboard, but I think it might. Jim and I were given tickets to a Marquette Golden Eagles (still the Warriors, in the hearts of most) basketball game. They played the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
Now I’m not much of a sports fan. In the paradox of the education system (I think on both sides of the border) I coached basketball, the junior team. Having no knowledge or skill, I read the rules, did some drills, took the team to a tournament, yelled “more defense” and lost terribly. So with that as my basketball past, I could make this post about;
Our awesome seats, center court, three rows back,
Our lunch in the bar for members only, or
The sea of yellow and blue fans, singing and dancing their way onto the big screen.
But instead I want to write about the basketball. It was amazing.
The Badgers towered head and shoulders above the Golden Eagles and the Eagles seemed seriously bereft of any three point shooters. However, the game was exciting and intense. Marquette hustled and worked hard. They gave the Badgers a run for their money. The point spread remained consistent throughout. When the Badgers edged out too far the Eagles would regroup and come back in to close the gap. Both sides gave 100% until the very end and down to the last moments Marquette made us believe they might just pull it off. No doubt next time they will.
I’m a bit of a fan now. Who knows maybe you’ll see me on Saturday when the Bucks take on Utah!
