Art Bar

We’ve decided to take down the review of the Art Bar. These reviews are supposed to be about taverns, not the price or quality of art by local artists. Frankly, we goofed in letting this particular blog run, and our apologies to anyone it offended. You’ll find a new Bar Time column as usual next Wednesday. Bruce Murphy Editor Milwaukee Magazine

Art is always in the eye of the beholder, and that what makes this bar unique. One month you may not love the exhibit, and will rave over the following months creations. There is also a "one week" painting that anyone can sign up to create, and regardless, they are always at the very least … interesting. All 52 paintings are displayed in one big exhibit shortly after the new year.

Two times a year there are parties to celebrate both the anniversary of the bar being open and a holiday fiesta in December. You need a special invitation, but it is well worth it. Free beer and a secret punch. Door prizes and a fabulous buffet are included in each event.

Happy hour is Monday through Saturday from 3-7. You can’t beat buy one get one free at already decent prices. Sunday features 4.50 specialty bloody marys, with the option of a 50 cent corona chaser. No need to eat brunch, your meal is already in your glass.

The owners, and bartenders, are unique as well. Everyone has their own personality and specialty, and can cater to drinkers as well as non drinkers. Specialty coffee, featuring local business Alterra, and special ground tea flows as frequently as the wine There are always regulars there who will introduce themselves and make your first visit a friendly one.

There is chex mix, a pool table and dart boards, as well as several board games, If you want to partake, you may want to bring your own dice if you want a Yahtzee marathon. Outside seating is available for those who want to smoke, and pizza is for sale for those of you who want to snack.

The Art Bar is the perfect "home away from home" when you need to escape with co-workers, friends, spouse, or just need some time to yourself. At Art Bar, you are only lonely if you want to be.

About the Author
My name is Darcie. I’ve been living in Riverwest for 5 years. I love the people and the different options for places to go. I have a dog, Aspen, and sometimes take her to Art Bar for a "cookie." They always have some on hand for good dogs. Unruly ones need not apply. I like the feeling of familiarity I get there, but also like to explore uncharted places. Meeting new people is always a plus.
