What’s the best use of a 55-gallon drum container? If you ask Matt Sievers and Art Milwaukee, it’s creating a giant 3-D replica of a Pabst can. “The live art is [a] just-added attraction to this already great street party,” says Sievers, marketing agent for Pabst Brewery. Pabst is partnering with Burnhearts (2599 S. Logan Ave.) to host the free and family friendly street party this Saturday, June 30 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Beer, music and food are the only essentials you need for a successful street party. But Burnhearts is taking it one step further and making it a celebration of all things local. “It’s as local as possible from the food to the vendors to the talent. It’s become a Milwaukee favorite in the midst of Summerfest,” Sievers says.
Tayna, Burnhearts’ bartender, has been at the party every year and is expecting a crowd of about 1,000 people. There will be 15 to 20 local craft vendors and food from Bay View favorites: Classic Slice, Honey Pie, Hectors and more. DJ WhyB from WMSE will be spinning between local bands like Dick Satan Trio, Juniper Tap and Extra Crispy Brass Band. There are two more bands that remain a secret. Whether or not that means they are extra special or they just haven’t been booked – you’ll have to wait and see.
“Get your party shoes on,” says Sievers. “Normally this event is on July 3, but since it’s a Tuesday this year, we figured by Saturday people were ready for the holiday so we bumped it up a few days.”
Most important, there will be $3 Pabst and Schlitz all day on top of Burnheart’s amazing beer selection, plenty of Pabst swag, and a custom t-shirt and poster you can only get on Saturday at the party. The revelry will most definitely continue inside Burnhearts after the street closes at 8 p.m. For more information, see the Facebook event page.
