Milwaukee Magazine is bringing its pages to life in a new monthly event series, MilMag Live! @ the Back Room at Colectivo. The series kicks off on Monday, Jan. 9, and will focus on two topics generated by the January issue’s “Conversations” cover story. For the first topic, Insiders vs. Outsiders, MKE natives, including Ald. Nik Kovac, will discuss the city’s strengths, weaknesses and quirks with Milwaukee transplants, including former “Top Chef” contestant Heather Terhune. The second topic, MKE on the Brink, will delve into Milwaukee’s art, culture and music scene and whether it might go national in the near future. Chad Bauman, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre managing director, and Reggie Baylor, artist and studio owner, among others, will discuss this possibility.

WUWM-FM’s “Lake Effect” is partnering with Milwaukee Magazine for the series. Audience participation is strongly encouraged, so come fully equipped with your questions and opinions.
“Our goal is to get a conversation going within the community,” says editor-in-chief Carole Nicksin. “The stories in the magazine are a great jumping-off point to start a dialogue, but up until now, the conversation has been one-sided. All of the editors are really excited to hear what the public has to say.”
Doors open at 6 p.m. for an hour of networking and socializing, followed by the discussion portion of the evening, which will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10, and all of the proceeds will go to charity. The January event proceeds will go to the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council. The Back Room at Colectivo is located at 2211 N. Prospect Ave.
