BURGER
In the Mil Mag office, virtually everyone has a different idea of what makes a great burger. But No. 1 in our reader survey is the classic, burger-as-wide-as-your-head Kopp’s (three locations) – which bumped Sobelman’s (multiple locations) from numero uno status in 2016 to third place.
Besides the “Loser” burger (which was featured on the Travel Channel TV show Food Wars), Sobelman’s is known for the Hangover (topped with a fried egg) and the Cool Ranch (with habanero cheese and Southwest ranch sauce).
No. 2 is Oscar’s on Pierce (1712 W. Pierce St.), whose seven styles of burger all feature a juicy, jaw-straining patty. There’s a reason, you see, that “Big” is in almost every burger title: For example, the Big “O” comes with chipotle jack and smoked Gouda cheeses, bacon, chorizo, fried onions, jalapenos and a side of guacamole. It’s up to you to bring the Pepto.
