This week, get out and support the dining establishments in our area’s AAPI community. May 18-24 is Asian Restaurant Week – one of several events taking place locally to commemorate AAPI Heritage Month.
Local group ElevAsian posted a list of some of its members’ favorite local Asian restaurants. It’s not a comprehensive list but it’s diverse and rich and a great starting point if you’re looking for suggestions. There are so many good ones. I’m craving the banh mi from Xankia Downtown, the pho (always) from Vientiane Noodle Shop in Silver City, the curries and noodle dishes at Thai A Kitchen on the East Side, dry chile fish at Sze Chuan in West Allis, Taiwan 3-Cup Chicken at Bento Xpert in Eleven25 (former Pabst Brewing grounds), a Hawaiian combo plate from Ono Kine Grindz in Tosa, the chicken mosakhan at (West Asian) Taqwa’s, and really anything from Himalayan Yak in Bay View. We now have Burmese and Malaysian cuisines, with Ni Burmese in Bay View, Khan Aseya on 12th and Lincoln, and Taste Amir’s Roti, first a food truck, now a brick-and-mortar on South 15th Place. Don’t like my suggestions? Support your own favorites.
