In honor of our 40th anniversary this year – and pegged to our birthday party at the Brewers game this evening – Mayor Cavalier Johnson has proclaimed today, Sept. 13, Milwaukee Magazine Day.
The publication actually started in 1979 but began a new era in 1983 when longtime publisher Betty Quadracci took over, and we’re proud of the issues we’ve put out every month since then.
The mayor’s office agreed, drafting this official proclamation in honor of Milwaukee Magazine Day:

The City of Milwaukee joins staff and community members in recognizing the 40th anniversary of Milwaukee Magazine on Wednesday, September 13, 2023; and,

WHEREAS, Milwaukee Magazine was acquired by Quad’s founder, Harry Quadracci, in 1983 from WFMR-FM radio station owner Doug Cofrin, who founded the magazine in 1979; leadership of the magazine moved to Harry’s wife, Betty Quadracci, who served as president and publisher for 30 years; and,
WHEREAS, Milwaukee Magazine has accomplished its achievements through print, digital and social media channels, and has explored controversial topics and published hard-hitting investigations that have made a difference in our city, while providing comprehensive coverage of the best that the city, county and state have to offer, from arts and culture to dining to travel destinations to the people that make Milwaukee move; and,
WHEREAS, Milwaukee Magazine serves not only its readers but advertisers, providing an audience of Milwaukeeans ready to spend their dollars on local businesses, and magazine events which bring the community together around amazing food, ideas and fellowship; and,
WHEREAS, Milwaukee Magazine became one of the city’s leading monthly publications, with hundreds of thousands of readers across the region and state of and has continued to be a dynamic resource of local voices, ideas and insight; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Milwaukee congratulates the Milwaukee Magazine for taking the lead in their community, thanks their staff and editors for their commitment to serving this city, and wishes them continued success in the coming years; and,
