Water Buffalo Closes for Reconcepting

The “new” incarnation will be designed to increase street presence and access to the Third Ward’s Riverwalk.

Third Ward restaurant Water Buffalo (249 N. Water St.) has closed… but not permanently. The riverfront restaurant, which opened in spring of 2007, served its last meals on New Year’s Eve.

Owners Joe and Angie Sorge ‒ whose Hospitality Democracy runs nearby Swig and Holey Moley doughnuts, as well as AJ Bombers ‒ say the restaurant will reopen in spring and offer “better access to the Riverwalk, a better street presence” and apparently, new menu options. Milwaukee’s Flux Design, which handled the initial design, is going to bat on this one as well.

Note the many changes that have come to the Third Ward just of late, specifically near Water and Buffalo (hello, Shake Shack…).

More details to come.
