Try This Edgar Allan Poe-Inspired Tiki Cocktail

Warm up with Third Coast Provisions’ out-of-the-box cocktail, The Catacomb Canary.

Now here’s a cocktail that blends the unexpected: tropical fruit flavors and a short story by Edgar Allan Poe.

Its creator, Ty McNulty of Third Coast Provisions, riffs on the classic Jungle Bird tiki drink without resorting to the conventional rum, cloves and brown sugar. Instead, he marries nutty Amontillado sherry (made famous by a fictional Poe murderer who lures his prey to a damp vault with a cask of Amontillado) to a rich, savory-sweet house-made miso simple syrup, spicy Apologue Persimmon Liqueur, lemon juice and fruity pineapple amaro made by Heirloom Liqueurs, an offshoot of Milwaukee’s Bittercube.

To sip this intriguing, island-inspired libation is to cast off the chill of a catacomb crime scene – or a harsh Milwaukee winter.
