This Bites: New Food Trucks and More

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

This installment of This Bites on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee has something for, well, a lot of tastes. If you’re reading this after Father’s Day (which was Sunday, June 16), you could glaze over our recs for what to give your pops — but at the same time, these are great recs for any and all gift-giving, and not just for dads. One of them is the bacon-making class at Kettle Range Meats

Also, summer is officially almost here, which feels unbelievable on many days lately. Crappy weather or not, food truck season is here, and the trucks are coming for you. In a recent web story on, our intern Matt Martinez covered five new trucks to look for this year.  Some of them will be at the new Zocalo Food Truck Park in Walker’s Point, set to open this summer.

Also in the This Bites mix is the the new restaurant replacing Smyth at the Iron Horse Hotel. It’s called Ash, and the chefs creating the menu for it are Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite, the guys from DanDan and Fauntleroy

And finally, Purple Door Ice Cream recently hosted a flavor contest, which we talk about. And BTW, Tarik is perfecting a nutritional yeast ice cream. Hear more about that.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
