Just in time for Valentine’s Day. I know where my workmates will be on Tuesday, February 13 — among the first people in the door (maybe) at Batches (401 E. Erie St.), the classic American bakery from Jaceleen Latin-Kasper, who is also the pastry chef at DanDan across the street (360 E. Erie St.)
Latin-Kasper, both owner and executive pastry chef at Batches, is planning a sizable portfolio of sweet and savory deliciousness, and that includes vegan and gluten-free baked goods, coffee, house-made ice cream and sorbet, pies, brownies, cookies, candy-bar-style layer cakes and more. Her team includes chefs Linda Thai, Chris Walker and Ashlee Millen, as well as lead barista Sammi Krstic.
Specific baked goods range from savory pizza babka with marinara, pepperoni and mozzarella and tater tot casserole to a confetti cake with strawberry buttercream frosting and banana chocolate loaf.
Batches will have quiche, fresh doughnuts and cinnamon rolls on Saturdays.
Hours: Tues-Fri 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sat 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Closed Sundays.
