The holidays are officially here, and there are plenty of ways to make your weekend merry and bright.
Need a last-minute gift? Discovery World (500 N. Harbor Dr.) is hosting an adult-only pop-up shop featuring 12 vendors from Milwaukee Makers Market on Thursday, December 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Grab a drink while you explore the museum or peruse the many gifts for sale. You can also create your own gifts at the Kohl’s Design It! Lab. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for adult members.
Twenty of twenty-three theater troupe members come down with food poisoning, leaving only three of them to perform their musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The show must go on in this fast-paced musical, running December 1 through January 7 (Thursday, December 21, Friday, December 22 and Saturday, December 23 this weekend) at Tenth Street Theater (628 N. Tenth St.). On Thursday, the audience has the opportunity to talk with the director and actors after the show.
Every year, the historic Pabst Mansion (2000 W. Wisconsin Ave.) gets a holiday makeover and opens three floors to visitors. On Friday, December 22, explore the festive opulence that adorns each and every room during this after hours self-guided tour from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy light snacks and live entertainment by zitherist, Kurt Eckroth, and vocalist, Megan Eckroth. Adults pay $15; kids ages 7-16 pay $8; children ages 6 and under can tour free.
This winter children get a chance to send off letters to Santa and watch elves at work making toys at the Mitchell Park Domes (524 S. Layton Blvd.). Come see the special holiday flower-filled displays and a 25-foot tall holiday tree Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibition is open through January 7.
Red Lion Pub (1850 N. Water St.) is hosting an ugly sweater party on Saturday, December 23 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Enjoy the free holiday buffet while you watch the Packers take on the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Absolut, Altos and Jameson mixers will be sold for $6 while Absolut, Altos and Jameson shots will cost $3. There will also be special offers on Milwaukee Brewing Company taps with free samples beginning at 5:30 p.m.
This annual Lowlands event highlights rare winter brews. On Friday, December 22 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Cafe Centraal (2306 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) will be teaching Bierklasse attendees about one-of-a-kind and rare winter biers, including Chouffe N’Ice, Corsendonk Christmas, Gulden Draak Calvados, Kasteel RaspBarista and Unibroue Blonde De L’enfer. Centraal will also provide holiday snacks and a free growler of Santa Rampage. Check out the beer menu and get tickets ($45) before they sell out.
