Oconomowoc will be bustling and buzzing in summer of 2021. On Wednesday, March 3rd, the Common Council approved a development plan that includes a new 2,500-seat baseball stadium.
Could this diamond house your new favorite local baseball team? Potentially. The plans call for the stadium to be the new home for a team in a yet-to-be-announced baseball league. One possibility would be the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate league that currently includes 20 teams including the Kenosha Kingfish, Fond du Lac Dock Spiders and Lakeshore Chinooks, who play in Mequon. A new team based in Hudson is set to begin play in 2021, according to the league.
The desire for a team in the western suburbs has been growing since 2008.
“This had been proposed to a couple of different communities before us,” says Oconomowoc Mayor David Nold, “But we saw this as a great opportunity for growth and prosperity. We’re very excited.”
The stadium will be located off the interchange of Highway 67 and I-94, near Wisconsin Harley-Davidson.
The new development will draw a lot more than baseball fans. The stadium will be part of a larger complex including an indoor training facility with the potential to grow youth athletes across several sports, including baseball, lacrosse and soccer. It will serve athletes from youth sports up to to the collegiate level.
So get ready to pull out your peanuts, baseball caps and sunnies because the future is looking full of dingers.
