The RNC Has a Choice: Milwaukee or Nashville?

Milwaukee is among the finalists to host the massive event.

Milwaukee and Nashville are the final two cities vying to host the 2024 Republican National Convention, Politico reported on Thursday.

Salt Lake City and Pittsburgh had also been in the running to host the GOP convention.

Representatives from Milwaukee and Nashville will be in Washington, D.C., next week to make their final pitches to the RNC’s site selection committee, according to the Politico report.

The political news site also noted that Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel was in Milwaukee on Wednesday to meet with Milwaukee’s Acting Mayor Cavalier Johnson and members of the host committee.

Politico previously reported that Milwaukee had emerged as a favorite for the convention.

Johnson took part in a debate with Bob Donovan – the two are vying to win the mayoral election in April – on Wednesday night at Turner Hall in Milwaukee.

During the debate, Johnson mentioned that he had met with the RNC chair this week in response to a question unrelated to the convention.

Milwaukee formally submitted a bid in December to host the 2024 RNC. Milwaukee has also been invited to submit a bid to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The city officially served as host of the 2020 DNC, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the event to shift to a mostly virtual format due to public health concerns. The shift in focus cheated the city out of a rare opportunity to showcase itself on a national stage and likely to an international audience.
