The East Side’s Allium Bar Has Closed

The East Side’s Allium Bar Has Closed

The bar-cafe served beer, wine and small plates in a historic building formerly occupied by Cafe Brucke.

The warm, twinkly lights at East Side’s Allium serve as a bright, welcoming beacon on Prospect Avenue (2101 N.). But the last several nights, no lights have brightened that historic 1927 storefront (the former Cafe Brucke) and the space has been conspicuously closed. Sunday night, a post on the bar-restaurant’s Facebook page confirmed that Allium is closed,“to reevaluate the future of our business,” according to the post.

Allium is known for beer; wine; simple, thoughtfully prepared small plates; and the affable service of owner/bartender Stephen Haig-Marks. More details on its future when I can get them.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
