The Milwaukee Brewers have unveiled a Bob Uecker jersey patch that will honor the legendary and beloved radio voice of the team for 54 years, who died last month just shy of his 91st birthday.
The patch was designed with “Ueck’s” unique style in mind and features a gold and navy plaid print, an ode to the colorful sportscoats Uecker often wore, according to the team. The patch will be worn on the arm sleeve of the Brewers uniforms and will remain on the jerseys throughout the season.
The patch will debut during Spring Training and will be worn for the first exhibition game on Feb. 22 when the Brewers take on the Cincinnati Reds at American Family Fields of Phoenix.
“We miss Bob every day, and all the more as we approach our first season without him at our side,” Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger said. “Ueck was a great friend to all of us. He was a fixture at the ballpark and in our lives. We cannot fill hole that his absence has created, but the jersey patch will be a way to honor his memory whenever we take the field.”
Details on a public celebration of life event for Uecker will be announced later this spring.
