1. Enjoy Some Tacos Al Pastor From Romero’s Taco Truck
ARCHER PARQUETTE, MANAGING EDITOR
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in West Allis, attending to matters of business, the particulars of which do not concern you. As a result, I’ve been eating a lot of West Allis lunches, and one of my favorite finds (courtesy of our digital and culture editor Alli Watters) is Romero’s Taco Truck, which posts up outside the West Allis WAC every afternoon. The tacos al pastor are a go-to order for me – light, tasty, easy to eat on the go. If you’re ever in Stallis, I recommend a stop.
2. Go to Trivia at O’Lydias
ALLI WATTERS, DIGITAL & CULTURE EDITOR
I love trivia. Unfortunately, I’m terrible at it. So it helps me to go somewhere that has plenty of distractions like good food, a sunny patio and pitchers of beer. At O’Lydias, I can forget that I’m a total dummy as I munch on my meal, sip my Riverwest Stein and soak in the rays. My team does all the heavy lifting while I pipe in for the one question I randomly know the answer to. Join in the competition every Thursday at 7 p.m.

Tell us who you’d pick to be a Betty this year!
3. Explore “Deep Lake Future”
BRIANNA SCHUBERT, ASSOCIATE DIGITAL EDITOR
The way I gasped when I walked into this immersive art experience. My expectations were something along the lines of the “Beyond Van Gogh” or “Beyond Monet” experiences that we saw come to Milwaukee over the last few years. I thought it’d have funky screens and maybe some interactive pieces. Well, let me tell you that this is exponentially more beautiful, artistic, detailed and immersive. You are quite literally surrounded by the Great Lakes, brought into the story and asked to take part in it. It sparked a childlike sense of wonder, exploring all the details and interactive pieces, and I can’t wait to go back to see it all again.

4. Read Remarkably Bright Creatures
ALLI WATTERS, DIGITAL & CULTURE EDITOR
Tova Sullivan is grieving. Her son died too young in a mysterious accident, and now her husband has passed too. She keeps busy by working nights cleaning the Sowell Bay Aquarium in Washington. It’s there that she befriends Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus who’s nefarious for escaping his tank and running around the museum. He’s an intelligent creature who uncovers evidence that could help Tova find closure. But how will he communicate these findings to his human buddy? Find out in this touching, oh-so sweet novel, which happens to be the best book I’ve picked up this summer.
5. Get your Taco Fix at Taco John’s
CHRIS DROSNER, EXECUTIVE EDITOR
One of my many personality flaws is that I love fast food – especially tacos. If I’m traveling and I see a garbage-looking regional fast food taco place (I miss you, Del Taco), I’ll stop even if I’m between meals. Milwaukee had been dramatically underserved in this department until this year, when the area caught up with the rest of Wisconsin by getting properly Taco John’s-ed, with new locations on Miller Park Way in West Milwaukee and Greenfield Avenue in West Allis. (It should be noted, though, that a Waukesha location has been around forever.) Taco John’s – which is a forerunner of and has a trademark on “Taco Tuesday” – is a very good fast-food taco joint. The tacos are bigger, better and fresher than Taco Bell, but that doesn’t really matter because they have Potato Oles. These crispy, seasoned little tater tot-like wheels of fried deliciousness make a TJ’s combo meal a true meal. A third location is coming to Milwaukee proper (350 W. Layton Ave.) later this summer.
