Explore Oconomowoc
Make a day of it in downtown Oconomowoc. The Children’s Play Gallery (126 E. Wisconsin Ave.) is the main event. Reserve a spot ahead of time, and note that it closes midday to sanitize the space. Stop for photo ops in Oz Plaza (168 E. Wisconsin Ave.), a landmark celebrating the 1939 world premiere of The Wizard of Oz. Feeling lunchy? All aboard for Maxim’s (115 E. Collins St.), located in an old train depot. Expect hearty food and a model railroad. Walk off the meal with the 2-mile loop around Fowler Lake and a scoop at Golosi Gelato (162 E. Wisconsin Ave.).

Architects, interior designers, renovators and landscapers: Submit your best work for consideration!
Visit MAM Storytime
Milwaukee’s grandest Saturday story time is also super welcoming (and included with the price of Milwaukee Art Museum admission). Gather in the atrium at 10:30 a.m., then move into the galleries to hear a story. The mood is relaxed but thoughtful. Kid can’t sit still? Escape to the Kohl’s Art Studio for hands-on expression.
Discover Dinosaurs
Dinophiles, dig this: Kenosha has a dinosaur museum! With life-size models plus a play dig site and dino dress-up for the littles, Dinosaur Discovery (5608 10th Ave.) is worth the drive – and general admission is free. The main hall houses more than 20 gargantuan fossil replicas where dino-loving kids can test their skills on tongue-twisters like acrocanthosaurus. Before the museum, fuel up at Franks Diner (508 58th St.) with kid-friendly fare like pancakes and tater tots. After, stroll to Scoops (5711 Eighth Ave.) for ice cream, nostalgic candy and Ms. Pac-Man.
