SistaStrings Will Perform Live on ‘SNL’

The duo from Milwaukee has been performing all around the country this year.

On Tuesday afternoon, SistaStrings announced that they will be performing on Saturday Night Live on Dec. 10. The duo, made up of Milwaukee-born-and-raised sisters Monique and Chauntee Ross, are backing up Brandi Carlile, the week’s musical guest.

Growing up on Milwaukee’s North Side, the musical pair first debuted as SistaStrings in 2014, with Chauntee playing violin and Monique playing cello. They released their first EP, Lift, in 2019, and in 2021, they relocated from Milwaukee to Nashville.

The duo has had a long year of high-profile performances. They were on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Ellen” this spring backing up Allison Russell, as well as at Russell’s Tiny Desk Concert. In April, they performed at The Grammys with Alicia Keys and Brandi Carlile, and also performed with Carlile at Madison Square Garden.

Join Milwaukee Magazine and Quad for the third-annual Unity Awards Event on March 8 from 6:30-9 p.m. at GATHER in the Deer District.

You can catch them live in Milwaukee again on Jan. 25 at the Pabst Theater, where they’ll be performing with Ani DiFranco and Peter Mulvey.
