SistaStrings and Peter Mulvey Are Dropping a New Album

The artists with Milwaukee roots are releasing ‘Love Is The Only Thing’ on Aug. 12.

SistaStrings and Peter Mulvey are teaming up again for a new album.

SistaStrings, a string and vocal duo from Milwaukee, moved to Nashville last year. The duo – Monique and Chauntee Ross – have since appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and performed with Grammy-winner Allison Russell at venues around the country. Monique, who plays cello, and Chauntee, who plays violin, are both classically trained string players, who blend classical, gospel and R&B genres in their music.

Mulvey is a Milwaukee-based artist, who writes and performs folk music. He’s released 19 albums, his most recently solo LP being 2019’s There Is Another World

Milwaukee Magazine connects you with the most trusted and enduring local businesses. Here, we introduce you to the people whose hard work makes these businesses successful.

SistaString’s and Mulvey’s new album Love Is The Only Thing will be released on Aug. 12. It follows Mulvey and SistaStrings’ 2020 collaboration Live at the Café Carpe.

“Peter has been the complete definition of an ally,” Monique said in a news release. “We found a home in the folk/Americana realm when we began working with Peter and that gave our career the direction it was lacking.”

“Finding refuge and rejuvenation in these songs with this group of musicians was healing and personally some sort of mission statement for why we even make music in the first place,” Chauntee said.

The album includes folk classic covers like “Shenandoah” as well as original songs performed by Mulvey and SistaStrings.

You can pre-order Love Is The Only Thing at this link. Mulvey will next be performing in Wisconsin from June 23-25 in Fort Atkinson. SistaStrings will be performing at Fiserv Forum with Brandi Carlile on Aug. 5.
