Pizza Man on Downer to Serve Last Slices Saturday

The longtime pizzeria is expected to reopen in the former Stubby’s Gastropub in April.

Pizza Man on Downer (2597 N.) is getting a new home – and very soon. The restaurant, which opened in the former Lixx frozen custard shop (remember that place?) in 2013, has come to end of its lease and was looking for a “viable, sustainable” home, per a press release from parent company F Street Hospitality. That home will be the former Stubby’s Gastropub & Beer Bar (2060 N. Humboldt Blvd.), which closed at the end of 2022.

Pizza Man’s last day on Downer is Saturday, March 25, and from 2-9 p.m., the restaurant is running all-day happy hour prices and serve $3 select shots. There’s a raffle as well.

The Humboldt Avenue location is expected to open in mid-April.

The new digs will give Pizza Man a spacious outdoor patio overlooking the Milwaukee River. The menu will feature “old favorites” as well as some new items, as yet unnamed. The Happy Hour, BOGO Tuesday and Wine Wednesday specials are all expected to carry over.

“The team and I are very excited to move into a developing area of the city, as well as offer our guests a great outdoor patio space with beautiful views of the river.” Jay Culp, the regional GM, said in a press release.

Pizza Man, whose original North Avenue location was destroyed by fire in 2010 after 40 years in that space, also has a location in Tosa (11500 W. Burleigh St.).
