Morning Links for May 26, 2015

Fast-food facts, flooding and a U.S. Supreme Court case that could affect voting districts nationwide.

A sampling of what we’re reading this morning:

  • Charter Communications is set to buy Time Warner Cable, which provides cable and broadband service for much of the Milwaukee market, for $55.33 billion.
  • The state’s Joint Finance Committee passed a motion that would allow homeschooled and charter-school children to participate in public schools’ sports and activities. The Wisconsin Parents Association, a homeschooling group, and others, are not pleased. The measure still has to be signed by Gov. Walker before passing.
  • At least 30 counties in Texas and have been declared disaster zones due to the unusually high levels of flooding. At least a dozen people are missing and five have died as a result, according to The New York Times.
  • The U.S. Supreme Court announced that this fall it would hear a case that could change how voting districts are determined nationwide. At the heart of the case, reports the Los Angeles Times, is whether districts should be drawn based on total population or number of eligible voters.
  • Put away your elastic waistbands: Fast-food slingers Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are eliminating artificial flavors, artificial colors, trans fats and high-fructose corn syrup by the end of 2015.
