Morning Links for May 12, 2015

Walker’s “listening tour” in Israel, alleged gender discrimination in Hollywood and another earthquake in Nepal.

What we’re reading this morning:

  • Verizon is buying AOL for $4.4 billion, reports the AP. Verizon is the largest wireless provider in the U.S. We wrote about all things wireless in our January cover story, “Wired Milwaukee.”
  • Another earthquake has struck Nepal and the AP is reporting there have been at least 37 deaths as a result. The region is still recovering from the quake in late April that killed more than 8,000 people.
  • The Wisconsin Supreme Court is in disarray and it is currently unclear who is its Chief Justice.
  • Gov. Walker, who is having himself a “listening tour” in Israel right now, is said to be helping journalists, including the Journal Sentinel, by denying them access to his tour, but allowing them to use photos taken of him and posted on Twitter.
  • The American Civil Liberties Union announced it will be looking into allegations of gender discrimination in Hollywood’s practice of hiring film directors.
