Modine Manufacturing Co. Will Open a New Plant in Franklin

It’ll bring 200 full-time jobs to the area.

Modine Manufacturing Co., a Racine-based manufacturer of vehicle radiators and other heating and cooling equipment, will open a plant in Franklin that will eventually bring 200 full-time jobs to the suburban community.

“We have an established history of a wide range of manufacturing businesses that call the city of Franklin home, and securing this partnership with Modine confirms we are attracting the best these industries have to offer,” Franklin Mayor John Nelson said in a statement. “This is a great win for our city and the job opportunities it will bring to the community.”

Modine’s Advanced Thermal Systems product group will lease a 153,000-square-foot facility at 3303 W. Oakwood Road, in a recently developed industrial park southwest of South 27th Street and Oakwood Road.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

The city of Franklin has offered $1.6 million in tax increment financing to support the project.

The new facility is expected to open by mid-year and provide 200 full-time jobs by 2029, Modine said in a statement sent to Milwaukee Magazine. Modine didn’t indicate how many employees it initially plans to hire for the Franklin facility.

“Franklin was selected because it met needs for a site that could accommodate different teams, including manufacturing and engineering, and offers the ability to expand in the future as the business grows,” the statement said.

Rebecca Gries, executive director of Milwaukee 7, the regional cooperative economic development organization for the seven counties of Southeastern Wisconsin, declined to comment on the matter.

The Franklin site will produce thermal management systems that are used in specialty and commercial electric vehicles such as fire trucks, last-mile delivery vehicles, municipal buses and construction equipment.

Founded in 1916, Modine is a publicly traded company that serves the commercial, industrial and vehicular markets with products to manage heating and cooling and improve air quality. The company’s global headquarters, which includes general offices and laboratory, experimental and prototype facilities, is located in Racine. The company has operations in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
