Milwaukee Halal Restaurant Week Kicks Off | Milwaukee Magazine

Milwaukee’s Halal Restaurant Week Is Here!

Heaven’s Table BBQ, Canela Café, Onesto and Joey Gerard’s are just a few of this year’s participating spots.

The second annual Halal Restaurant Week – which kicks off Friday, July 7, and runs through July 16  – is a bridge-building initiative that expands the local restaurant options available to those who follow a halal diet featuring foods sanctioned by Islamic law.

“Halal” is an Arabic word that means “lawful” or “permitted.” According to the American Halal Foundation, “Any food which is hygienic and free of alcohol, harmful (or toxic) ingredients, intoxicants, and pork products, and any meat which has undergone halal slaughter and preparation may be considered halal.”

Eat Halal Milwaukee, which organized this event, already has a database of area halal-adhering restaurants. Restaurant Week shines a light on new and returning participants. New ones include Hue, Heaven’s Table BBQ, Canela Café, Crafty Cow, El Gaucho, Bacchus and Joey Gerard’s. Among the returning participants are Onesto, Carini’s Southern Italian, Mr. B’s: A Bartolotta Steakhouse, Tomken’s and 5 O’Clock Steakhouse.

Some of them are offering special promotions ranging from 15% off your order to a free menu item. Learn more at eathalalmke.com.
