August 23: Unity
Jazz in the Park once again rocks out this Thursday. The summer outdoor concert series welcomes Unity to perform on Thursday, August 23, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cathedral Square Park. The original roots reggae group has been playing together since 2002, and they know music.
The Wisconsin-based group comprises founder, lead singer and rhythm guitarist Kai ‘Pita’ Katobalavu; bassist and vocalist Tim Perkins; drummer and vocalist Kelvin Ayres; keyboardist and vocalist Logan Pier; and lead guitarist and vocalist Anthony Robert Bessen.
Unity’s stage presence electrifies audience members with their positive party vibes and ultimate groove. Their music includes old roots, rock and reggae in addition to original medleys that combine reggae, funk, blues and more. Together, Unity has released five albums: Liberation, In The Beginning, Revival, Oceania and Sunset 7.
Listen for a Midwestern take on reggae and a cultural story of Fijan lead singer Katobalavu. Unity continues to travel around the Midwest playing at a variety of venues and stages. As they gain global attention, you will want to check them out while you still can.
