Hundreds of people are expected to gather Monday evening at the riverfront launching site near the Hoan Bridge, 600 S. Water St., to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Milwaukee.
A bridge lighting ceremony will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and will include a cultural performance, land acknowledgment and remarks from Tribal government officials. The event is being organized by Indigenous Biz Con, a conference Oct. 14-15 at Potawatomi Casino Hotel with networking, community building, conversations around breaking down barriers to economic development and more.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
The Hoan Bridge will be lit in traditional medicine wheel colors (black, yellow, red, white). The medicine wheel colors have various meanings for tribes, including seasons, directions and medicines. The circular shape of the wheel represents the interconnectedness and relationship shared between each another and the natural world.
