I’m Walking Here

You can see the state-of-the-art in Milwaukee crosswalks at Water and Seeboth streets in the Third Ward – a walkway lit above and on both sides by a flashing battery of red lights. Activated by buttons, they grind traffic to a halt where it would otherwise flow unimpeded, as there’s no conventional traffic light at this crossing. Milwaukee still accounts for about half of Wisconsin’s pedestrian-involved accidents, so there’s more prevention to be done. Here’s what some other cities have tried.
