Fairytales Come to Life at Sheboygan’s Bookworm Gardens

With 70 gardens across 7 acres, Bookworm Gardens has plenty of room for adventure.

That feeling of being utterly transported by a narrative is one of the pleasures of reading. For children especially, the Crayola-bright worlds constructed through words and pictures are pure magic.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

At Sheboygan’s 7-acre Bookworm Gardens, classic stories come to life. Bookworm has 70 different gardens open May to October that feature lush flowers, and brightly painted and designed vignettes like The Giving Tree, Jack and his beanstalk and Horton hatching his egg.

Kids can dig for dinosaur bones, explore a playhouse for a monster and much more. The site is also part of a unique national program called Read in Color, which seeks to amplify diverse voices. And kids can choose a book to take home from the Little Free Library boxes planted in the gardens and other sites around Sheboygan.
