‘Escape from Peligro Island’ Is a Choose Your Own Adventure On Stage

First Stage is performing the play May 10-June 2.

First Stage’s Escape from Peligro Island, which runs May 10-June 2, is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book brought to life. A vampire island, an underwater spy cave and the Wild West are all places the protagonist can explore depending on what choices the audience makes.

During the play, viewers vote eight to 12 times using multicolored paddles. The result is hundreds of possible unique paths.

“Our typical scripts are maybe 60 pages; this script is around 240 pages,” says director Jeff Frank.

For the cast and crew, this means many more scenes to rehearse – some of which may never show up in a performance – but it also makes it likely that each show will be unique.
