Buckley’s Chef to Take New Position at Black Sheep

Buckley’s Chef to Take New Position at Black Sheep

Christian Schroeder officially takes over the head chef gig at this Fifth Ward bar-restaurant in mid-May.

There’s news of a chef nature in the Fifth Ward. Christian Schroeder – who’s been running the kitchen at Buckley’s Restaurant & Bar (801 N. Cass St.) since spring of 2015 – is taking over the head chef job at Black Sheep (216 S. Second St.). Schroeder, who worked at the short-lived Nourri in Washington Heights before coming to Buckley’s, will offer “creative takes on more traditional dishes,” per co-owner Wes Shaver. Schroeder’s Black Sheep gig is official on May 16.

The current menu is a mix of bar snacks, apps and cheese and meat boards; share-able plates like fried chicken with mac and cheese; and larger plates such as steak frites. The menu under Schroeder is expected to be similar.
