Brew City: The New MobCraft Brewery

Another brewery? This one’s from Madison. A first look at MobCraft on South Fifth Street.

Featured Brewery of the Week
MobCraft (505 S. Fifth St.) was bustling on a perfect summer day. The glass garage doors were wide open, the outdoor picnic tables were busy, and the long bar in the sleek taproom was nearly full. The recent import from Madison had a dozen or so of its own crowd-sourced beers and an impressive list of guest taps that was big on Wisconsin locals. MobCraft is a nice addition to the bustling near South Side beer scene.

Reason to go: The space is sleek and inviting, whether you decide to sit inside or out.
On tap: Plenty of MobCraft beers and a large selection of brews from other breweries from Wisconsin.
Extras: Ping pong and foosball to keep beer drinkers active.

Barley Pop of the Week
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Lakefront’s ambitious Brandy Barrel-Aged Cherry Lager. Lager isn’t a style that you see in barrels often. The bold flavor of Lakefront’s offering is a mix of tart cherry and booze, and it packs a 10.5% ABV wallop. If you see any of this around town, give it a try. It’s certainly a style you won’t see often.

Quick Taps
It might be a good idea to reserve a spot at the Bar Bites Beer Bash, coming up on Aug. 29 at Story Hill BKC (5100 W. Blue Mound Rd.). Eight different breweries and food pairings are why you need to call 414-539-4424 to save a space.

The Great Taste of the Midwest is this Saturday in Madison. Cheers to all who are making the trip.

I need to make a trip to Enlightened Brewing’s tap room (2018 S. First St.). If you’d like to as well, the hours are 3 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Draft Magazine has an interactive spot on its site where you can record the bars on the top 100 list that you’ve been to. I like games.
