10 Places to Grab a Beer This Week: May 29-June 2

An exciting new addition hits the Milwaukee beer scene this week when Hacienda Brewing Company has its grand opening on Saturday. On the same day, Gathering Place has a big release event. Those are just two of many beer-related options for this week.

Wednesday, May 29

New Glarus comes to Ray’s Growler Gallery (8930 W. North Ave.) to take over the taps. The tap list is full of favorites, and includes the outstanding New Glarus Strawberry Rhubarb.

The Milwaukee Beer Society celebrates another homebrew night at Best Place (901 W. Juneau Ave.) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Come try a few beers made by members.

Thursday, May 30

Drink Brew City takes over 12 of the taps at Champps (1240 S. Moorland Rd.) at 5:30 p.m. The selections include a collab between Eagle Park Brewing and Third Space Brewing. If you want to sample a few local beers, this is a great chance.

Draft & Vessel (4417 N. Oakland Ave.) hosts the New Belgium Sour Showcase at 6 p.m. Try a few tart brews from New Belgium and take part in a raffle to win a rare bottle.

Saturday, June 1

Gathering Place Brewing (811 E. Vienna Ave.) hosts Wordsmith Day starting at noon. Try three variants of the brewery’s Wordsmith Wheat Wine including one aged in High West Bourbon barrels, one infused with Kickapoo Coffee and another modeled off of an Old Fashioned. For sustenance, Meat on the Street food truck will be there from 5 to 8 p.m.

Hacienda Beer Company (2018 E. North Ave.) hosts its grand opening at its Milwaukee location starting at 11 a.m. They’ll have 12 of their delicious beers on tap, a full kitchen and live music. Cheers to our skilled brewing friends from Door County.

WMSE’s SMASH Ale, created by Company Brewing’s George Bregar and Poundcake Punk’s DJ Drew, is released at Company Brewing (735 E. Center St.) from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the fifth special brew made in part by one of the best radio stations in Milwaukee.

The Brewery Running Series makes its first trip to Component Brewing (2018 S. 1st St.) this weekend. The 5K run starts at noon and costs just $30. Get a run in and check out this great new(ish) brewery.

There are some serious Three Floyds brews being tapped at The Brass Tap (7808 W. Layton Ave.) at 4 p.m. The 16 tap lines include plenty of aggressive brews from Munster.

Sunday, June 2

The 8th Annual Beers & Cheers fundraiser happens at Sugar Maple (441 E. Lincoln Ave.) and benefits Fernwood Montessori. Sip a few great beers, enter a raffle or bid on auction items. Seems like an OK Sunday to me. Tickets start at $45.
