Our Go-To Local Breweries | Milwaukee Magazine

Ask MilMag: Where’s Your Go-to Local Brewery?

This is where the MilMag staff likes to grab a beer … or two.

1. Central Waters

ARCHER PARQUETTE, MANAGING EDITOR

I first discovered this brewery’s tap room when they launched a Joe Pera-themed beer, Warm Apple Night, a few years back. As a Pera devotee, I had to try it, and I was delighted to find this Milwaukee taproom. Located in a former church near the old Pabst brewing grounds, it’s got the cozy atmosphere down pat – ideal for one of their refreshing, inventive craft brews on a cold night. One drawback: the parking sucks. The neighborhood gets super busy on weekend nights, and the spots are limited – but still absolutely worth a few minutes circling.

2. Vennture Brew Co. in Washington Heights.

CHELSEA MAMEROW, ART DIRECTOR

They brew their own beer AND roast their own coffee. Both of which are excellent. I was a freelance designer living a few blocks away when they opened so it became a place for me to plug in that wasn’t my couch. The owners and good people behind the bar have created a true community space, hosting regular cribbage and euchre leagues, the occasional karaoke night and last summer even a BBQ competition. I live a little farther away now, but it’s still my go-to place to both work (ahem, with coffee) and grab a couple two tree beers when I slam the laptop shut.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

3. The Fermentorium

KATIE WILLIAMS, ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER

The Fermentorium has really nice people who serve really good beer. I love trying new varieties of their Juice Packets and Sweater Weather staples.

4. 3 Sheeps Brewing

ABBY YEMM, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

Their Chaos Pattern IPA is so good. Closer to home, we love Rebellion Brewery because the staff is so friendly and fun. Being in the basement of a mill from 1855 makes for a truly unique experience and their beers are great.

5. Supermoon Beer Co.

BRIANNA SCHUBERT, ASSOCIATE DIGITAL EDITOR

I’ve written about my love for Supermoon many times so I will keep this short and sweet. I love the cozy atmosphere and the unique beers. It’s the perfect spot to meet up with friends and have a round (or two) at any time of year.
