Wisconsin American Girl fans, you’re going to want to sit down for this one. The brand just announced its 2027 Girl of the Year: Daisy Davenport from Madison, Wisconsin.
She’s the first doll from the state, but the history of American Girl started just 40 minutes away in Middleton, where Pleasant T. Rowland founded it in 1986, creating the original American Girls collection of historical dolls. Mattel acquired the company in 1998, but American Girl continued to operate out of Wisconsin until late 2024.
Since 2001, American Girl has chosen a Girl of the Year, a modern doll who experiences everyday situations and real-life problems.
Daisy Davenport’s challenge? She’s going to sleepaway camp. And not just any camp: Those who know the American Girl lore will recognize that she’s going to Camp Gowonagin, the very same camp that historical doll Molly McIntire attended in the 1940s. Camp Gowonagin, although fictional, is somewhere in northern Wisconsin.
At camp, 10-year-old Daisy must earn badges, make friends and face her fears as she spends three weeks away from home for the very first time.

Along with the books, the doll has several outfits, accessories and toys to bring the story to life. To name a few: s’mores pajamas, a soccer net and uniform, camp crafts, her camp gear and a campfire set. Oh, and a complete doll-sized cabin.
