Just as the title of this sequel to 2007’s Why Did I Get Married? isn’t very original, either is the film itself. In this latest comedy from powerhouse writer-director-producer-actor Perry, the original’s four main couples are on an idyllic Bahamian vacation until Sheila’s (Scott) abusive ex-husband unexpectedly shows up (Jones). Meanwhile, the other couples experience their own marital problems revolving around trust, commitment and infidelity. Those themes will be satisfyingly familiar to fans of Perry’s domestic melodramas, but this sequel’s storylines are too similar to those of the original while also tilting dangerously close to soap opera territory. WDIGMT, however, benefits from strong performances, especially from Smith and Scott.
